2010.07.26 // Concert For A Cure, Saturday August 28th, Geneva IL

Hey everyone,

Just another reminder about 'Concert For A Cure' coming up soon, a great benefit supporting Parkinson's Research through the Paul Ruby Foundation. The 4th Annual outdoor music festival will have live bands from 1pm-11pm, games, silent auction, beer tent, food and just a great time all around. We'll probably be on somewhere between 6-8pm if we had to guess.

They are really encouraging getting advanced tickets as the crowd was so big last year, the line backed up at the gate. They expect an even bigger showing this year!

Tickets and info at www.paulrubyfoundation.org

It's going to be a great time, we will see you there!

2010.04.20 // new EP, video

hey everyone,

thought I'd drop in and give a little update since we haven't been on in awhile. we're heading into the studio thursday to start tracking a new EP, we've got some new ideas we're pretty excited about so thought we'd get them out there as soon as possible. There's a couple signature power tracks entitled 'Sugarcane' and 'Spell It Out,' a nod back to the brit invasion with a touch of punk thrown in on 'Wash The Pacific,' one that sounds like 'Pet Sounds' era Beach Boys all mixed up with some Shins called 'Set Sail' and two more progressive ones with a little more production kind of like if you mixed songs from our first record with some Muse called 'Paint The Sign' and 'Rip Out The Pages,' at least that's what vibe I get from them.

they are all great ideas and Landon has taken the lead on many as far as writing goes which is great to see, and also sings lead on 'Wash...' and 'Paint..'

also, we're talking to Jeff Johnson about doing another video so hopefully this will turn into a very productive spring.

just want to keep encouraging you to tell your friends about us, hit all the various sites and pick up the record via cd baby and itunes or whatever service you prefer. it really helps us continue to do what we do...

thanks,

Layne

The Antennas - Biography

Ladies and Gentlemen may we introduce to you, The Antennas. Comprised of brothers Layne and Landon Ihde fronting a classic power trio completed by drummer/producer Mark Niemiec. This Nashville, Tennessee based powerpop outfit provides the melody, harmony and rhythm you need in your life.

After seperately relocating to Nashville from Detroit the brothers Ihde were introduced to Niemiec in a local recording studio when they began to demo songs for a soon to be defunct project. In meeting Mark, Layne and Landon found a kindred powerpop spirit and from the ashes of one band rose another - The Antennas.

Instantly hitting it off with similar musical roots and references things quickly clicked in the studio and Mark's role soon stretched from engineer and producer to drummer and backup vocalist. The newly formed band's unwritten manifesto clearly cited a love of classic rock and powerpop from the big names - The Who, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin - to the alternative pop classics like Matthew Sweet, Superdrag and Sloan.

The Antennas self-titled debut album balances wide-eyed raucous optimism with subtle commentary on the posturing nature of being in a band. From the opening air-raid siren of 'A Call to Arms' to the closing heart-on-their-sleeves chorus of 'Stop, Look, Listen', The Antennas take you on undulating excursion of pure pop rock pleasure.

The strong melodies and air-guitar worthy riffs lead the way but know when to lay back. The bass thunders along but seemingly from out of nowhere becomes the melody line. The drums slam and skip and slam again. Keyboards add subtle texture - weaving, layering and enriching both the harmony and melody in a distinctly un-digital way.

Layne sings lead vocal, plays guitar and keyboards. Landon sings backup, plays bass guitar and keyboards. Mark provides the driving force and rhythmic foundation of the band from his hybrid drum-stool-cum-producer-chair at the back. And he sings, too.

All 3 members contribute to the songwriting process and each adds a unique perspective to the sound. Layne leans toward the 80's New Wave with hints of his early childhood in both the vocal melodies and synth lines. Landon channels classic retro "British Invasion" sounds with his tight punchy-yet-melodic basslines and falsetto background vocals. Mark blends the two with a modern take on pure rock rhythms and contemporary studio production.

Self-releasing the album in the US in 2009 attracted the attention of UK label Popjinx who are picking up the record for the EU. Along with a newly completed video for the lead track and live favorite 'You Really Bring Me Down', The Antennas debut album will be released throughout Europe in February 2010 expanded with a bonus track and closely followed by a supporting European tour later this year.
